Dr. John Sowers & The Mentoring Project Guest Host March Networking Lunch - Tuesday, March 1st

Friends,

We believe that Oklahoma City can be transformed by the Son of God, the Spirit of God, and the Son of God.  Though a common pursuit of City Transformation, beginning among the most marginalized, a relational network has come together comprised of church, non-profit, and business leaders along with compassionate ministry types and other interest individuals.

The vision of this relational network (which has been described of late as NetworkOKC) is to make Oklahoma City a better place to live for all people in Jesus’ name through a Kingdom movement that calls the Church to strategically partner together on behalf of the poor and forgotten among us.

Dr. John Sowers & The Mentoring Project will guest host the March Networking Lunch at Life Church South Oklahoma City Campus located at 7800 S. Walker Ave - Oklahoma City, OK 73139 on Tuesday, March 1st from 11:45am to 1:00pm.

John Sowers is President of The Mentoring Project, a movement that is re-writing the fatherless story through mentoring.  He has been a part of the White House Task Force on Fatherhood and Healthy Families.  John received his Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and attended Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, where he wrote his doctoral thesis on the crisis of fatherlessness.  This dissertation was published by Zondervan under the title, Fatherless Generation: Redeeming the Story.  John and his wife, Kari currently reside in Portland, Oregon.

The Mentoring Project was originally founded in 2005 by New York Times best-selling author, Donald Miller.  After writing his own experience growing up without a father, TMP was born out of a desire to help write a better story for those growing up without the influence of a father.

The Mentoring Project is an advocacy organization that serves as a liaison between faith communities and matching agencies to provide mentors for fatherless youth.  Through dynamic church trainings, national mentor recruitment, and the creation of sustainable mentoring communities, The Mentoring Project seeks to rewrite the story of the fatherless generation.

Here in Oklahoma City, The Mentoring Project has begun a National City Conversation - a collaborative effort of multiple churches and/or organizations in our City working together to address the issue of fatherlessness in our communities.  Together, the goal is to work toward providing mentors for a large number of children, either through matching agencies, school districts or even within neighborhoods surrounding local churches.

We have a unique and important opportunity to enter into a working relationship with Dr. John Sowers and The Mentoring Project.  I hope that you will make every effort to participate with us on this day and extend the invitation to many of your fellow leaders, colleagues, partners and friends.

On Behalf of the Fatherless,

Ben Nockels
